The Giro d'Italia 'big start' speeds underway from Titanic Belfast on Friday 9 May 2014.
This iconic and historic cycle race began life in Italy in 1909 when struggling Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport got wind of a plan by a rival paper to launch a tour of Italy following the runaway success of the Tour de France, which had been established six years beforehand.
This year's opening three stages will be held in Northern Ireland from the 9-11 May 2014, taking in Belfast, the Causeway coastal route and Armagh culminating in a conclusion in Dublin Ireland on Sunday. Following a rest day, the cycle transfers to Giovinazzo on the Italian Penninsula and concludes in Trieste Italy on day 21.
As part of the Northern Irish stage of the Giro d'Italia, MVMS are providing over 50 variable message signs to warn motorists in advance of road closures and alternative routes. MVMS are delighted to be a part of this prestigious event and welcome all the cyclists to Northern Ireland.
Details of forthcoming road closures during the event can be found through the following link:http://www.belfastcentre.com/road-closures-for-giro-ditalia/
Good luck to all those participating!
