MVMS Kids raise awareness for Road Worker safety campaign

July 25 2014

One high speed, careless accident through road works doesn't just take the life of someone carrying out an important role, it destroys the lives of co-workers and family members also.

The next generation of MVMS, our kids, recently enjoyed a fun day out whilst helping to raise awareness of Road Worker safety. One high speed, careless accident through road works doesn't just take the life of someone carrying out an important role, it destroys the lives of co-workers and family members also.

All road workers involved in roads projects where live traffic is present, from traffic management and maintenance operatives to vehicle recovery specialists, still face a high level risk of injury or fatality. MVMS find this unacceptable and are determined to join the campaign to raise awareness of the risks posed to road workers from speeding motorists.

MVMS kids enjoyed the opportunity to raise this issue once again. Our clever ‘smarties’ bribe worked its magic on our child models who broke the ‘never work with children or animals’ rule to perform like consummate professionals.

The Highways Agency commitment to improve road worker safety has been highlighted through this clever advert campaign, which promotes the key message of 5 seconds!

At 70mph it takes 13 seconds to drive ¼ mile and at 50mph it takes 18 seconds to cover the same distance. That’s only 5 seconds slower but the impact is huge and this reduction could prevent a serious injury or fatality to a road worker.

Road Worker Safety can be enhanced through correct traffic management and VMS signs can help get the message across for motorists to reduce speed. With the addition of traffic sensors, a temporary ITS solution can provide advance warning for speeding vehicles with appropriate messages displayed on VMS signs ahead of a works area where personnel are present.
